HEADS UP STUDENT DESIGNERS
Call for entries for the Sudbury Design Society Student Scholarship 2024
We know you’ve been working hard on building your portfolio for graduation, why not use it to apply for a scholarship?
One scholarship recipient will be awarded a $500 Scholarship in recognition of a graphic design student in their final semester who has effectively utilized their design education for the greater social good.
The selected recipient will have demonstrated the importance of using design to give back to the community by dedicating their skill set to creatively support existing volunteer agencies, community groups, medical causes or environmental protection.
Deadline to submit is 4 PM Pacific Time on April 5, 2024!

RECIPIENT REQUIREMENTS
Scholarship Recipients
Applications must be submitted through the awards portal in myCambrian and must include:
Submit your 3 best portfolio pieces via PDF;
Submit a short statement (100-250 words) indicating what you hope to do with/achieve with the funds if you are the successful applicant;
Submit letters of reference demonstrating your volunteer experience, or how you have given back to the community.

SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW
Eligibility
The Sudbury Design Society scholarship is available to any full-time Cambrian College student in their third year of the Graphic Design program, in good academic standing, who has effectively utilized their graphic design education for the greater social good.
Application Process
Once the application window has closed, Cambrian College's award officer will collect and send all portfolio submissions to the SDS. The final selection for the recipient of this award will be made with the recommendation from the Graphic Design faculty and the Sudbury Design Society representatives.The scholarship recipient will be chosen based on the strength of their work and explanation of their choices and process. After a selection has been made, the award will be presented at the Annual Grad Exhibition 2023.

Over the years, one student has been selcted from each graduating year since 2018. Each recipient recived $500 from the Sudbury Design Society to help them kick-start their careers post-graduation. Below, is the 2019 recipient of the SDS Scholarship, Cristina Cromeyer and her student project: Kidi Box.

Kidi Box was created to tackle the issue of technology affecting the fine motor skills of children. This subscription box contains 4-5 activities promote the development of fine motor skill. Parents will be given all the materials needed, plus a guide which both explains each activity and how it will benefit the development of their child.
Additionally, carried through to the design of an annual report to educate shareholders and sponsors on the benefits to potentially investing in the Kidi Box brand.

Every year, we invite a new panel – from the Graphic Design faculty and the Sudbury Design Society – to uphold our commitment to help designers and advocate for good design in Sudbury. These recipients have demonstrated the importance of using design to give back to the community by dedicating their skill set to creatively support existing volunteer agencies, community groups, medical causes or environmental protection. Submissions cannot be changed after it’s been sent in; however, you can contact Cambrian College at awards@cambriancollege.ca and explain the nature of the mistake and they will tell you if changes can be made.
