Description: SNOLAB is a world-renowned underground science laboratory specializing in neutrino and dark matter physics. This unique scientific research lab is one of a kind and has been featured in countless scientific documentaries, studies and television programs. Studio123 designed a report for SNOLAB’s 2017-2022 Strategic Plan that communicates complex scientific matter in a clear, concise and inspiring way. It was important to make complex scientific matter inviting, accessible, and joyful to read through good design. Varying shades of blue were used to emphasize certain content, coupled with a clean, modern sans-serif type family to optimize the reading experience. Studio123 also developed a graphic pattern inspired by the structure of SNOLAB’s famous underground neutrino detector and used it throughout the report as a recurring graphic device to help lead the eye, frame content and create intrigue. A typical, vertical, scientific format was avoided for the final document. A wide landscape format ensured the reader felt like they were immersed in a good book or magazine, as opposed to digging through a scientific paper. This refreshing format was well received by SNOLAB stakeholders and partners. This branded look was ultimately applied to all of SNOLAB’s communication tools.
