Description: THE CASE OF THE MISSING MAYOR was written by playwright and director Judi Straughan, and hosted by the Sudbury Theatre Centre. To compliment the play and to create an authentic experience dating around the turn of the 20th century, the concept of a newspaper handed out to guests by “newsies” upon entering was settled on, instead of a standard program containing the cast members, production team, and message from the playwright. The final paper contained 20 full-page spreads, with old product ads, quotes, and historical backgrounds with photographs from local sponsors embedded throughout. To maintain the local vibe, it was printed at Journal Printing in Sudbury, a company that began operation on March 5th, 1891, and is still running strong! This project was not only a great opportunity in experimenting with typefaces and editorial design, but also afforded me the luxury of learning about the city I grew up in while being able to share it with the community as a keepsake long after the final performance.
